Michael Sharp
Born in Lafayette, Indiana in 1954, Michael has led an eclectic artistic career as a rock musician,
design engineer, ballet dancer, graphic designer, educator and painter. Through years of
experimentation, he has developed his process and style from observing the weathered wall surfaces and advertising posters found on the streets throughout Europe to the tornado ravaged barns in Indiana to the latest computer technology and programs.
He has been inspired by Jasper Johns, Chuck Close and Robert Rauschenberg throughout his career and continues to move towards new concepts and images. He states, “Making art is like taking a ride in the car for a day and observing everything: trees, junk, billboards, abandoned motels - everything is fair game. I don’t want to be pegged as a specific type of painter (or writer, or film maker...) because I never know what I’ll encounter during the daily ”car rides”. Sometimes I’ll see something much more interesting on the way to a museum than what’s in the museum itself.”
Michael's work has been acquired by private and corporate collectors including Duke Energy, Procter & Gamble and Great American Insurance Company and currently works in his Lafayette, Indiana studio.
